Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate are sponsoring a bill, dubbed the Providing for Life Act, that includes an expansion of the Child Tax Credit (CTC). Specifically, the bill would expand the CTC to up to $3,500 per child under age 18 and $4,500 per child under age six, make the Adoption Tax Credit fully refundable, and expand the CTC to include unborn babies. In addition, if passed, the bill would enhance paid parental leave, expand WIC program eligibility for postpartum women and enact multi-tiered child support reform. In the House, the bill is sponsored by U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) and in the Senate it’s sponsored by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).
