If you contribute directly to a Health Savings Account (HSA) — not through pretax payroll deductions — you still have time to make 2025 contributions. The deadline is April 15, 2026, and you can deduct the contribution on your 2025 federal income tax return. Filing for an extension doesn’t extend the contribution deadline. Just be sure to designate the correct tax year when funding your account. And your total 2025 contribution can’t exceed the applicable limit. Remember, you must be eligible to contribute to an HSA. If you became ineligible during 2025 (for example, by enrolling in Medicare), you can contribute only for the months you were eligible. Have questions? We’re here.
