ACA vote forced

The Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credit (PTC) is scheduled to expire on Dec. 31, 2025. In an unexpected turn, four House Republicans have joined House Democrats to force a vote on extending the enhanced PTC. This comes a day after House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said a vote under “normal procedures” wouldn’t happen. In this instance, a discharge petition was used to force a vote. If the enhanced PTC is allowed to expire, millions of taxpayers who received advanced PTCs for 2025 won’t receive them for 2026 and will see dramatic increases to their health insurance premiums. If the measure passes the House, the bill will then head to the Senate for a vote. Stay tuned.
