What’s happening with bonus depreciation?

Do business owners fare better under The One, Big, Beautiful Bill passed by the U.S. House or the version recently released by the U.S. Senate Finance Committee (SFC)? Both include key provisions that affect domestic businesses. Under current law, first-year bonus depreciation (now at 40%) will phase out entirely by 2027. The House bill proposes to restore that to 100% for property acquired and placed in service from Jan. 19, 2025, through 2029. If enacted, the SFC bill would make the 100% deduction permanent for the first time. Both versions would also allow for a temporary 100% bonus depreciation for certain non-residential real property used for production. We’ll keep you updated.
