April 15 is tax day for most individual filers, but May 15, 2025, is the big day for not-for-profit organizations that operate on a calendar-year basis. Depending on a public charity’s income and assets, it’s generally required to file Form 990, 990-EZ or 990-N. Private foundations must file Form 990-PF. All of these are informational returns. However, if your tax-exempt organization has unrelated business income of $1,000 or more, you must file Form 990-T with your tax payment. As with other filers, nonprofits are eligible to request six-month filing extensions to Nov. 17, 2025. Contact us if you’re unsure whether any of your income is taxable or if you have other filing questions.
