U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Democratic senators who serve on the Senate Finance Committee are warning that an IRS hiring freeze and the firing of employees could spell disaster during tax season. In a Feb. 18, 2025, letter the senators asked U.S. Treasury Department and IRS leaders to explain how staffing reductions are in the country’s best interest. They also requested clarification about which IRS positions are considered “necessary” and, therefore, exempt from the hiring freeze. Among the concerns is that the IRS won’t be able to answer taxpayer questions, process returns or issue refunds in a timely manner. To read the letter: https://bit.ly/3CQdxXB
