Taxpayers beware, warns the IRS. As tax-filing season nears, scammers ramp up their targeting of taxpayers. One common scheme is to threaten taxpayers with fake tax bills and pressure them to pay the bills by gift card. Scammers may pose as IRS agents, leaving voicemails that suggest there has been criminal activity. The IRS reminds us that it never accepts gift cards to pay a tax bill. It also won’t initiate contact by email, text or social media, nor will it demand payment to avoid arrest or loss of citizenship, driver’s license or business license. If you receive such a message, don’t panic. Instead, report the scam. Click this IRS link for details: https://bit.ly/4g2aed9
