Truckers have a few extra days this year to file required forms, but the due date is still rolling up fast. Owners of most heavy highway vehicles must file their annual Form 2290 (Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return) by Sept. 3, 2024. The usual Aug. 31 due date falls on a Saturday this year. This tax applies to vehicles with taxable gross weights of at least 55,000 pounds that are operated on public highways. It generally includes large trucks, truck tractors and buses. To file, a business will need the taxable gross weight of the vehicle and the month it was first used during the tax period (July–June annually). Other rules apply. E-filing is encouraged.
