Did you pay the correct amount of tax?

You have the right to pay no more than the correct amount of tax due, including, if applicable, penalties and interest. This legal right means you can file for a refund if you think you’ve overpaid and file an amended return if you make an error on your original return. You can also notify the IRS of any potential errors in a tax notice or bill. Use your IRS Online Account (https://bit.ly/49RftJV  ) to request corrections to tax due (and to interest charges if you believe the IRS caused unnecessary delays that increased them). If you think all or part of a tax debt is wrong, you can make an Offer in Compromise (OIC) to pay less than the full amount. However, the IRS doesn’t have to approve it.
