If you’re in the market for an electric vehicle and hope to qualify for the new or used clean vehicle tax credit, take note: Deadlines for submitting seller reports to the IRS have been extended. Your seller is required to submit a report to the IRS Energy Credits portal by a specified deadline and provide you with a copy no later than three days after the sale. For qualified vehicles placed in service (when a buyer takes ownership) in 2023, the filing deadline is Feb. 15, 2024. Reports for vehicles placed in service between Jan. 1 and Jan. 16, 2024, must be filed by Jan. 19, 2024, and those placed in service after Jan. 16 must be submitted within three days.
