Two-way communication with the IRS is getting easier as the agency seeks to improve customer service. For example, taxpayers that receive notices from the IRS generally have been required to respond by mail. However, beginning with the 2023 tax filing season, notice recipients have been able to respond online to 10 of the most common notices for credits such as health insurance tax credits, saving time and money. Also, as of late September 2023, the IRS has been making some commonly used forms adaptable to mobile device screens so they can be submitted electronically. This is in recognition of the fact that about 15% of Americans rely solely on mobile phones for internet access.
