Just weeks ago, the IRS halted acceptance of new claims for the Employee Retention Credit amidst fraud concerns. IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel said that a flood of ineligible claims promoted by fraudsters had led to a pause in accepting new claims and added to the processing time for claims filed. Members of the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means recently sent a letter to Werfel commending the IRS for fraud prevention efforts but asking for clarity. The letter expressed concern that the delay will worsen the “years-long backlog of delivering refunds to eligible businesses, many of which have suffered financial harm while in processing limbo.” Here’s the letter: https://bit.ly/3F30Aal
