TIGTA raises concerns on IRS tax liens

After the completion of an audit, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) is raising concerns that the IRS isn’t properly notifying taxpayers regarding tax liens. TIGTA’s annual audit reviewed IRS compliance with Notice of Federal Tax Lien (NFTL) filing and Collection Due Process (CDP) procedures. The audit examined a statistically valid sample of 116 NFTLs. It found that the IRS didn’t always mail a copy of the NFTL and notice of CDP appeal rights to taxpayers’ last known addresses. The audit also found that the IRS failed to file NFTLs for over 1.5 million taxpayers with balances of more than $10,000 during the review period. Read the audit: https://bit.ly/46gzE2Q
