Disaster declarations give more time to pay

The IRS is sending follow-up mailings to taxpayers in several states affected by natural disasters to let them know that they have additional time to pay their taxes. Specifically, the new notices will be sent to residents in designated disaster areas in AL, AR, CA, FL, GA, IN, MS and TN who received CP14 notices from the IRS in late May and June. The earlier mailings are for taxpayers who have a balance due and are sent as a legal requirement. While the notices received by those taxpayers say payment is required in 21 days, the taxpayers actually have until later this year to timely pay under the disaster declarations.
