Although the proposed law dubbed the “Secure Act 2.0” generally has bipartisan support in Congress, it may not be passed before the end of the current lame duck session. The retirement security package doesn’t seem to be a top priority now compared with keeping the government funded and averting a shutdown. Lawmakers must decide by Dec. 16, 2022, whether to pass another funding extension or submit an omnibus spending bill. Other priorities include addressing the debt limit and approving the National Defense Authorization Act, which may provide hurricane recovery assistance and more aid to Ukraine. Meanwhile, Secure Act 2.0 negotiators are still sifting through possible provisions.
