Does the IRS unfairly target some taxpayers for audits? Some members of the House Ways and Means Committee believe former FBI director, James Comey, and his onetime deputy, Andrew McCabe, were victims of politically motivated tax audits. Both men were chosen for random audits under the National Research Program. The IRS has called the accusations “ludicrous and untrue.” IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig said in a recent conference speech that he’s never going to “allow anybody to tarnish the image and reputation of the hard-working employees” of the IRS or “of the agency itself.” Committee chair, Richard Neal (D-MA), is calling on President Biden to fire Rettig over the allegations.
