2018 Tax return year closing

If you or someone you know didn’t file a 2018 federal income tax return, time is running out to claim a refund for that year. According to the IRS, $1.5 billion in refund money has yet to be claimed by more than one million taxpayers. To file, you must mail a 2018 paper return no later than April 18, 2022 (April 19 for Maine and Massachusetts taxpayers). E-filing isn’t allowed for these returns. Also, the IRS may hold any 2018 refund if you haven’t filed your 2019 or 2020 federal returns. And it reserves the right to apply refunds to overdue tax bills and state and federal debts such as child support and student loans.
