On Feb. 18, the U.S. Senate acted to extend government funding through March 11. With that done, members of both the U.S. House and Senate have left Washington until Feb. 28. Upon their return, the Senate Democrats’ agenda includes no immediate tax legislation, according to the office of Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY). The Biden Administration and Schumer now realize that the Build Back Better legislation is stalled. However, quiet negotiations between them and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) will continue in the hope of finding a compromise. Democrat priorities for now include passage of bills to reform the U.S. Postal Service and to expand high tech research and manufacturing.
